Crime and Collectives–It Ain't Necessarily So

By Lanny Swerdlow, RN, LNC As a nurse working in cannabis therapeutics, I recognize the critical importance of the use of marijuana for the health of the individual and the community. It is essential that people wanting to use cannabis have safe, reliable and local access. Under the current statutory scheme in California, the only legal way patients can obtain marijuana is too grow their own, have their primary caregiver grow for them or join a collective. Most people do not grow their own tomatoes and most people do not [Continue Reading]

Dutch City Wants Marijuana Growing Co-ops

The Dutch city of Utrecht wants to experiment with letting marijuana smokers grow together in co-ops in a bid to improve, but the Dutch government is warning against the idea. The Netherlands allows for the legal possession and sale of marijuana and allows individual users to grow up to five plants for personal use. But the mass production of marijuana is illegal and puts big bucks in the pockets of organized crime groups. “We want to tackle this in the experiment. If you have some users grow the cannabis you [Continue Reading]

Texas Politician Wants to Decriminalize Marijuana

It’s about time Texas started this process. Personal possession of marijuana is the least harm causing activity a person can participate in. From hailmaryjane.com: A few days ago Rep Harold Dutton Jr (D-Houston) introduced House Bill 548 which seeks to decriminalize possession of under an ounce of marijuana from a class B misdemeanor to to a class C misdemeanor. This might seem like a small change, but the charges change from up to $2000 in fines and up to 6 months in jail to $500 in fines, and no jail [Continue Reading]

Colorado Bill Limits Blood THC, Targets Pot Smoking Drivers

Article By Steve Elliott of Toke of the Town A bill cracking down on driving while high on marijuana cleared its first hurdle at the Colorado state Capitol on Thursday. House Bill 1261 would set a limit of five nanograms per milliliter of blood, above which a person would be considered too stoned to legally drive, reports John Ingold at The Denver Post. Bill supporters tried to equate the five-nanogram THC limit to the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level that determines driving when drunk. “If you test above that limit, you [Continue Reading]

I thought that was very cool, and I think TWB readers should check it out. Here in the United States, we get a little caught up being ‘inside the fish bowl.’ This is a great way to see what Australia is up to, as well as what they think of us Yanks. Thanks again to Sean Sylvester, [Continue Reading]
